I've wondered about that too. I keep CO2 cartridges in the car all the time, all through the summer. Time to find a burly container for them.

Dang, I hope you weren't in the car at the time. If the shrapnel didn't get you, the commotion might cause a wreck. Crazy.

Damn!! I have them stored in my pack in the trunk all the time.

Reminds of the first time I (read "idiot")used one of those things. I did not fully release all the pressure and when I began unscrewing it, it shot out of my hands like a bullet, luckily in a direction that did not cause me bodily harm. It landed about 50 ft. away. I did not try using one again for several years after that episode.

I just found this warning for a CO2 BB gun:

"WARNING: CO2 CARTRIDGES MAY EXPLODE AT TEMPERATURES ABOVE 120 F. DO NOT MUTILATE OR INCINERATE THEM. DO NOT EXPOSE THEM TO HEAT OR STORE C02 CARTRIDGES AT TEMPERATURES ABOVE 120 F."

The temperature inside a car on a hot, sunny day can easily exceed 120 F. I crack my windows most of the time, but still I need to be more careful with the CO2 cartridges.

I was not in the car when it happened - thankfully - it was parked.

So far the insurance company has only asked one question: "what is a co2 cartridge?"

I'm glad you're Ok. I guess if you had been in the car, it wouldn't have been so hot though. How hot of a day was it?

I always thought CO2 cartridges were basically bomb proof. I leave them in my bag in the car all the time. I use the threaded ones that cost too much. Maybe they're thicker.
